Institute history

The Institute was founded in 1993.

The purpose of the Institute is to intensify research on the interaction of concentrated solar radiation with matter and development of new advanced materials operating in extreme conditions on the basis of local raw materials.

The Institute has a unique scientific object ‑ a Big Solar Furnace (BSP) with a capacity of 1000 kW.

BSP is a optical-mechanical complex with an automatic control system consisting of a heliostatic field and a paraboloid concentrator forming a high-density radiant stationary flow in the focal zone of the concentrator (process tower). The reflecting surface heliostats field is 3022,5 m2, concentrator – 1840 m2.
